The Borealis Centre for Environment and Trade Research (Borealis) is a non-profit organisation that provides critical services to the global NGO (Non Governmental Organisations) community. While the emphasis is on research, Borealis is also active in providing campaign planning and strategy development for its clients and member organisations. Over recent years Borealis has carried out over 150 projects for 50 plus clients in more than 30 countries.
Borealis’ aim is to strengthen the environmental and social justice NGO community, by providing crucial information, facilitating the sharing of information and building research capacity. To achieve this goal, Borealis conducts research and investigations, provides research tools to partner NGO’s and trains new researchers.

Non-profits

Borealis Centre has a very diverse portfolio, with extensive experience in the following areas: climate change, forest protection (including illegal logging investigations and the pulp and paper industry), sustainable fisheries, international waste trade, mining, agriculture, genetic engineering and human rights.

The organisations we work for include Greenpeace, ForestEthics, Rainforest Action Network (RAN), Dogwood Alliance, Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC), Book Industry Study Group, Green Press Initiative, Markets Initiative, Global Witness, Living Oceans Society, Corporate Ethics International, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and many more.
The Borealis Centre is is a member of of the Environmental Paper Network (EPN), European Environmental Paper Network (EEPN), and the Taiga Rescue Network (TRN).

Private and Government
While main focus of the Borealis Centre is on the non-profit sector, occasionally we carry out research for private companies or the governments that want to assess their environmental footprint or ensure environmental responsibility throughout their chain of custody.
